Compound Dry Separator (CDS) is a typical multi-G separator that has been successfully used for cleaning of run-of-mine (ROM) coal. The combined effects of vibration, gas-fluidization, autogenerous medium, buoyancy caused by high-density particles and table riffle effectively achieve the ash reduction and sulfur rejection of ROM coal. The dynamical equations of coal particles moving on the deck of CDS were established by theoretical force analysis. Deck vibration amplitude and frequency, air capacity and deck leaning angle were identified as main operating parameters for CDS. A model CDS with feed throughput capacity of 0.5-1 tph was used to perform separation experiments of -25 mm sized coal with various parameters. The influences of -6 mm pulverized coal and gangue contents on the separation performance were investigated as well. The optimal cleaning performance was achieved with a specific gravity of separation (SG50) and probable error (Ep) values of 1.70 and 0.23 g/cm~3, respectively.
