INTEGRATED METRICS AND BENCHMARKING SOLUTIONS USING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FOR HEALTH SECTOR SUPPLY CHAINS

This paper aims to address the lack of integrated metrics and bench marking found in the health sector supply chains of many countries. The direct influence on operations and supply chain performance will be illustrated. By applying and utilizing integrated, standardized protocols and information technology systems, quality and cost improvements will be illustrated. Integrated sensory data capturing and streaming via information system(IS) and information technology(IT) will be demonstrated. Advantages in supply chain, asset management and operations will be shown from both a physical and virtual centralized command centre approach. It is important to note that the value adding benefits of this theoretical overview is not limited to health sector supply chains. The application of standardized technologies and protocols allow data collaboration, statistical analysis and natural information transfer. Business informatics and dashboard monitoring link to the process design fundamentals found in metrics, KPls and bench marking. The added monitoring, measuring and manageability improves resource allocation and waste reduction. The lack of control, misappropriation of skills and cost of failure will also be discussed.
