The environmental aspects of sustainable development of polyurethanes aimed research works to use natural renewable products in the formulations of foam systems. Rapeseed oil polyols were synthesized and applied in the flexible polyurethane foam formulation to meet these challenges. Additionally, methyl formate (MF) was applied as an environmentally benign auxiliary blowing agent to improve softness and mechanical properties of obtained materials. The foaming process with and without rapeseed oil polyols and MF, as well as mechanical and morphological properties of obtained polyurethane materials were investigated. Structure-property, relationships were estimated and the usefulness of the oil polyols and MF in such foam formulations has been evaluated. Taken into account environmental friendly aspect of offered solution and better selected mechanical properties of modified flexible foams, they can be suitable for selected automotive and furniture applications.
