Engineered cementitious composites (ECC) are steady-state multiple-cracking, strain-hardening cementitious materials that significantly enhance ductility of traditional cement-based materials. This investigation focuses on the development of ECC utilizing locally available materials in the state of Louisiana. The influence of Class C and Class F fly ash at different dosages and low fiber content (1.5% volume fraction) were investigated for cost-effectiveness of the composite. Compressive and bending tests were conducted to characterize the mechanical properties of ECC mixes. Results showed a trade-off between strength and ductility. Increments in fly ash content as well as utilization of Class F ash (which lowered strength) favored ductility of the composites.
