This paper proposes a control architecture for the substation automation systems, combining the artifacts of the IEC 61499 standard, for modeling and implementation of the control logic, with the specifications of the IEC 61850 standard, for communication and information exchange between the automation devices. The proposed control architecture is implemented and validated in a simple fault protection scenario.
