Combining thermoplastic polymers and braze metal powder in polymer-particle composites offer new possibilities for the application of powdered braze metals. The solvent-free composites can be used in principle to produce tailored made components applying thermoplastic master forming techniques. Especially the injection molding process provides an economical technique to produce customized braze metal preforms in large lot. In this paper a DFG-founded research project is presented, which aims on the production of braze metal preforms, made of polymer bonded nickel based braze powders, by means of an injection molding process. Focusing on the production of O-ring-shaped preforms, material and processing conditions are discussed for manufacturing the preforms as well as applying those in furnace and induction brazing processes under protective gases.
