Superalloy Inconel 625 has been extensively used in aviation industry and chemical industry. The mechanical strength, which is a particularly important indicator for the superalloy, strongly depends on the matrix structure and the precipitated phases. In the present study, the influence of linear traveling electromagnetic stirring (L-EMS) on the solidification microstructures and room temperature mechanical properties of superalloy Inconel 625 is systematically investigated. The yield strength under room temperature of the as-cast ingot is significantly improved by nearly 20% with the application of L-EMS, which is mainly contributed to the effect of grains refining. The decrease of elongation under 2Hz electromagnetic stirring treatment has been proven to be the percentage increment of eutectic structure, which obviously provides more chance for crack initiation.
