In this work cerium compound was synthesized with trans-3,4-(Methylenedioxy)cinnamate as ligand. The compound characterization was carried out using simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Cerium dehydrated compounds was added in the polymeric PVDF matrix in different concentrations. PVDF sample doped with cerium compound characterized by FT-IR measurements and fluorescence. The FT-IR measurements showed that the Ce compound was incorporated in the polymer matrix. In addition, a decreasing of the percentages of β phase in relation of a phase was observed as a function of Ce addition in the PVDF matrix. From the optical measurements in the PVDF/Ce doped, were observed a broadening of absorption and fluorescence spectra as a function of the Ce addition and a displacement of maximum fluorescence of PVDF from green to the orange wavelength region. In summary, the experimental results revealed that the PVDF/Ce is a potential candidate to optical and photonic applications.
