Health Risk Assessment of Arsenic in Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine Panax Notoginseng

It is necessary to determine the health risk of arsenic in traditional Chinese herbal medicine Panax Notoginseng. This study collects plant samples in Yunnan Province and uses HG-AFS to measure the arsenic content in the roots, then calculates the health risk with relative daily intake by both deterministic estimation and probabilistic estimation. The results show that the risk values of both estimations are lower than the suggested value of WHO 1 × 10~(-5), while higher than the suggested value of US EPA 1 × 10~(-6), indicating carcinogenic risks to a degree for consumers.
