Personal Computers May Cause Symptoms Related to Low Frequency Electric Fields in Users

Users may feel stings and pain in their fingers when typing on their personal computers and notebooks and report that some of them are significantly worse than others, which they cannot use for long. The aim of this study was to clarify if the low frequency electric field (LFEF) voltages measured above keyboards differed and if the user reported symptoms correlate with the fields released by the devices. Nine PCs were analyzed. The results indicate that the LFEFs vary greatly. If the power supply lacks the connection to earth, the LFEF are several times greater than if the computer had earth connection. Also sensed symptoms were worse. In conclusion, the PC connection to earth is essential, but also other parts of the electromagnetic spectrum which the computers release may need attention as these parts seem to vary again significantly.
