Mathematical Derivations for Safety related Systems with Wireless Communication

This paper explains certain mathematical derivations to determine the SIL (Safety Integrity Level) levels for safety related systems with wireless communication. Derivations are derived by considering the channel as a GEC (Generalised Erasure Channel) channel model i.e. taking both the bit error and erasure into account. These derivations can be used to perform the calculations for different wireless communication technologies and to determine if they can be used for safety related systems to achieve safe wireless communication. The standards IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 are taken into consideration for the mathematical derivations and the SIL level calculations.
