Purpose: This paper proposes a psychosociological approach of murder, as a form of violent crime. Working methods: We have done our approach to the analysis of the main specialized studies in the recent years in Romania and other countries of Europe. We have further deepened the topic by analyzing statistical data from the General Inspectorate of Romanian Police. Results: Following a review of the referenced studies we want to bring ahead psychosocial features relating the murder offence committed in Europe and thus in Romania. By analyzing the statistical data recorded in our country we present psychosocial profile of people who have committed murder offences. Conclusions: We have determined that nowadays murder offences recorded a very high proportion of all violent crime acts committed nationwide. It is outlined an authors profile based on indicators such as: low levels of education, existence of criminal records, lack of work. Practical implications: Our results highlight new research directions of violent crime in Romania. Also, the psychosocial profile of the authors can be used in the implementation of strategies for the prevention and fighting violent crime, particularly murder offences.
