Microsporogenesis and male gametophyte development of Hemarthria compressa R. Br.

Hemarthria compressa R. Br. is a stoloniferous, perennial grass, belonging to the Andropogoneae tribe. It has an important role as forage in support of the livestock industry and as an ecological reconstruction species in south China (Yang et al 2004). A major disadvantage is its low sexual reproductivity, just propagated in vegetative way. The objective of this investigation was to study the microsporogenesis and male gametophyte development, and to evaluate the effects of these factors on seed production.
