Intelligent instrument is an important learning content for the college students whose major is Technique and Instrumentation of Measurements. The Course design about intelligent instrument based on NI ELVIS platform is described in this paper. Students made a kind of virtual frequency meter by building signal conditioning circuit on NI ELVIS platform and programming by LabVIEW application software. The design of virtual frequency meter has a good function, a good promotion, and has practical value as well. The design course has been carried out in the actual teaching activities for two years, more than 200 students successfully completed the goal of teaching.
