Raymond Auerbach is Associate Professor of Soil Science and Plant Production in the School of Natural Resource Management at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University's George Campus in South Africa. He farmed organically for 41 years, mostly in KwaZulu-Natal. He is also Director of the Rainman Landcare Foundation (organic farmer training) and a Founder Member of the Sustainable Organic Agriculture Action Network (SOAAN). He joined the Soil Association of South Africa in 1968, and participated in founding the Biodynamic Agricultural Association of Southern Africa in 1973 and the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) in 1972.
