Using Control Charts for The Creation of a System of Intelligent Alarms in Power Facilities of Nuclear Power Plants

During the creation of systems of intelligent alarms in power facilities of nuclear plants, a problem was encountered of how to detect quickly and effectively (in real time) beginning instability of a process described by about 140 characteristics and to warn the control centre that, without appropriate measures, an emergency event is highly probable. Among the statistical approaches, the multidimensional statistic methods have proved to be inefficient (mainly because we are not in a position, using the historical data, to know whether the changes are the result of an operator's intervention or have emerged spontaneously). Therefore, it is proposed that the classic control charts should be used to monitor process stability. Because of many characteristics being auto-correlated and non-stationary, range and moving range control charts were found to best and will be implemented in a future software application.
