Optical properties of ZnS embedded into polyvinyl alcohol films

摘要

A polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) thin film embedded with zinc sulfide (ZnS) quantum dots was fabricated by a drop-casting method. The ZnS-PVA nanocomposite films were characterized with ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Optical absorption spectra showed strong red-shift for the ZnS in PVA matrix due to the agglomeration of the nanoparticles. Room-temperature PL spectra demonstrated that the ZnS quantum dots show green emission at 517 nm while ZnS/PVA nanocomposite film gives off blue-green PL with a strong broad peak at 478 nm and a shoulder peak at 536 nm.
