The PhosEnergy Process – Uranium from Phosphates

Urtek, a company joint owned by Cameco Corporation and PhosEnergy Ltd,has been developing the PhosEnergy process for the extraction of uraniumfrom phosphoric acid for the past seven years. In 2012, Urtek undertook pilotplant operations in the US on acid streams from two separate phosphoric acidproducers. The outcome of this work formed the basis of a Pre-FeasibilityStudy (PFS), which produced very promising economic outcomes. Theproject has advanced in 2014 to demonstration plant operations on aphosphoric acid producer’s site in the US, with further engineering studiesplanned in the second half of the year.
