By lowering the heat input, a better weld quality was achieved. High heat input will increase the thickness of the brittle intermetallic. Real-time observation of weld dynamic behavior showed that optimum preheating speed will stabilize the weld condition. Zinc presence was helpful due to affinity to aluminum and formation of ZnAl.
