Examining Perfonnance Changes in Thermally Aged Nitrile and Hydrogenated Nitrile Compounds

The phenomenon of thermal aging and the related impact on rubber is of continuing interest in seals/rubber technology.There is the added concern of diffusion limited oxidation and how this might affect the quality and clarity of tests results.The immediate challenge was on how to design suitable experiments at the laboratory level to predict changes.This work relied on a range of physical and chemical testing with laboratory prepared slabs at two different average thickness,i.e.Tensile Strength,% Elongation at break,Hardness,cross link density and DSC Tg.
