Emulsil~(TM) Silica Masterbatch - Answering the Challenge of Silica Mixing

The use of silica in tire products is expanding due to its superior performance in rolling resistance, treadwear and wet traction. Global tire labeling initiatives along with increased consumer awareness are driving the demand for tires with silica technology. This brings challenges in mixing efficiency and environmental emissions. Cooper Tire and Industrias Negromex S.A. de C.V. (INSA) subsidiary of Grupo KTJO have developed a patented process to produce fully hydrophobated emulsion based silica maslerbatch that could assist the tire industry in meeting the increased demand. A full scale commercial silica maslerbatch production line has been developed at INSA. In this presentation we will introduce basic concepts of silica masterbatch technology and its use in tires. Specific benefits will be covered including processing efficiencies, elimination of alcohol emissions, silica dispersion, compound properties, and tire test performance. The silica maslerbatch product is available through the "Bmulsil"~(TM) product line offered by INSA.
