SMS Meer - JCO Pipe Making Technology Highly efficient technology and environmental protection

SMS Meer develops and builds plants for the tube, steel, NF metal and forging industry for over 130 years. The developer of the first cross-rolling mill for industrial production of seamless steel tubes today is a reliable partner for planning, engineering, production, erection, commissioning and service for pipe, production facilities including seamless pipes, longitudinal and spiral welded pipes. Under the roof of the SMS Group the whole process chain starting from the liquid phase is covered. With the standard setting PQF seamless pipe manufacturing technology, SMS Meer has been very successful in the recent years, including the lately commissioning of a JCO pipe mill at JSC Cheljabinsk Russia. The JCO forming process developed by SMS Meer has established itself worldwide in large diameter pipe mills, contributing most to the LSAW capacity growth. Since 1995, SMS Meer have built LSAW plants with twelve JCO pipe forming presses with a global LSAW capacity of 3 million tons per year. While the UO variant remains an attractive solution for the processing of large volumes and lot sizes, the JCO process is characterized by comparatively low investment and operating costs at a high achievable product quality. Best flexibility with respect to product mixes and capacities, potential for high-strength steel grades and particularly heavy-walled pipes complement the advantages. Following it's so far success the JCO technology is continuously enhanced. With improved automation higher output and more reliable product quality is ensured and new hydraulic concepts serve the environmental sustainability.
