The ecological composite wall is the main member bearing and lateral resistant wall structure system in use. It is important to find reasonable designs of the ecological composite wall having the lowest cost and satisfying the limitations and specifications of the Code for Ecological Composite Wall Structure [1]. The aim of this research is to design the minimum-cost ecological composite wall by the method of Genetic Algorithm (GA). The optimal model is put forward, and a computer program based on GA is also developed for determining the optimal values for the minimum-cost design of the ecological composite wall. Finally, a design example is presented demonstrating the efficiency of the procedure for the wall. Theoretical analysis and calculated results show that applying GA to the cost optimization of the ecological composite wall is effective, practicable, and very meaningful to the practical engineering. At the same time, it opens up a new way for optimization of the design of ecological composite wall structures.
