Fatigue Properties of Electron Beam Welding Overlap Joints with Different Overlap Gaps

The fatigue properties of laser welding overlap joints with different overlap gap were analysed and effect of the overlap gap on the S-N fatigue curves of samples were studied. The results show that, for the specimens with 0~0.1mm gap, the fatigue cracks of laser welding initiate at the root of the weld, and extends along the heat affected zone (HAZ), for the specimens with about 0.3mm gap, the fatigue cracks of laser welding initiate at the gap near the weld surface, and spread along the heat affected zone (HAZ). The test result shows that fatigue data scatter in the same area, and the overlap gaps have little impact on fatigue performance of laser welding overlap joints.
