MEASUREMENT AND STANDARDIZATION ON PHOTOBIOLOGICAL SAFETY RELATED TO LED PRODUCTS

The photobiological safety of optical radiation of LED products has been gained more and more attentions, with the rapid improvement of the light output and the wide application in the industry. The international standards IEC 62471-2006(CIE S 009/E:2002) and IEC/TR 62471-2 have been published in succession. But present standards are only based on the consideration of normal eye of adult people, and it is unsuitable to children and fundus oculi disease eyes. In the general LED lighting applications, the flicker of modulated powered sources and chronic effects of the blue light will be new issues emerging in the industry. For assessment of the safety classification of the products, the measurement of the quantities related to the photobiological safety has been focusing, however the weighted radiance of blue light hazard is pressing to be concerning in LED lighting recently, which is leading the development of the measurement of photobiological radiance.
