High manganese (Mn), aluminum (Al) and silicon (Si) content TWIP (Twinning-Induced Plasticity) steels have an exceptionally good combination of properties such as very high strength, ductility and damage tolerance. On one hand, high Al contents decrease the density of material which enables to reduce the mass of the material. On the other hand, Al provides increase in strength by the solid solution hardening mechanism. Furthermore, it is believed that TWIP steels have low to intermediate stacking fault energy (20 mJ/m~2 < SFE < 60 mJ/m~2) and hence undergo extensive mechanical twinning during deformation. In this study, the effect cold rolling and solution treatment on the microstructural and mechanical properties of 30Mn - 2.3Si - 5A1 TWIP composition were investigated. The microstructure and mechanical properties are characterized by using optical, electron microscopy techniques and mechanical tests.
