The section describes the design of the modification of a generator stator frame designed in the 80’ies. The operation has been performed during a major overhaul outage, and has been finalized to reduce high vibration level of the component, which caused several damages. The improvement has been designed with modern computational software and has been optimized for a “on site” application, reducing time and complexity of the operation. The solution consists in a set of ribs welded onto the frame that improves the dynamic behaviour, reducing by 50% vibration level and consequently extending the life of the component.
