Modern excitation systems for the growing Chinese market under the aspect of changing grid requirements

摘要

excitation systems are used in all type and sizes of power plants with synchronous generators. The primary task of the excitation system is to regulate the generator voltage in a foreseen range the generator working range. The system itself, brushless or static, includes a number of limiters, which avoid unstable operation of the generator within the generator capability curve. Modern static excitation systems are nowadays responsible not only for the regulation of the generator voltage or reactive power but also are involved in the stabilization process of the complete power system. In this paper selected Northern China Electric Power Research Institute (NCEPRI) requirements are presented and discussed. Then the results based on the comprehensive test executed on the Siemens static excitation system SPPA- E3000 SES are presented and investigated. Simulation results show that the modern excitation systems can be used not only for normal operation but also can be involved in the process of the network stabilization.
