Flexible Conventional Power Plants to Supplement Renewable Energy - The Pathway to a More Efficient use of Gas and Coal

Following the decision of the German government to shut down nuclear power plants until 2022 the demands on supply security and affordability of energy are in the focus of the ongoing discussion in Germany. At the same time a more rapid expansion of energy from renewable resources was decided; the so called "energy system turnaround". With corresponding milestones (e.g. at least 35% by 2020), by 2050 about 80% of the gross power consumption shall be operated by renewable energy.
