Siemens SGT-750 is a high performance gas turbine which provides excellent performance in all modes of operation, whether simple cycle, cogeneration or combined cycle. This twin-shaft gas turbine with its free power turbine can be employed both for power generation as well as mechanical drive. This gas turbine attains an efficiency level of 40% and has a capacity of 37 megawatts (MW). During the development phase there was a very high focus on uptime and serviceability. Maintenance work can be performed on site on the installed machine or, as an alternative, the gas generator can be exchanged to minimize downtime. With this alternative, maintenance downtimes for the SGT-750 have been cut to a mere 17 days in 17 years. Long service intervals, rapid gas generator exchange, modular design and easy access for borescope inspection all guarantee optimized availability. Additionally, the hot-section blade temperature can be measured during operation as a "health check" to ensure availability. The SGT-750 is equipped with a dry low emission (DLE) combustion system, minimizing NOx emissions. The high efficiency leads to reduced greenhouse gases with the further possibility to reduce the relative CO2-emissions in cogeneration or combined cycle. This paper will describe the development and testing of the SGT-750 gs turbine and the new features which have been built into the turbine, and will go on to discuss the first commercial project. An important factor for an operator is the uptime and special attention has been brought to this aspect during the design phase, as will be highlighted in the paper.
