Sustainable Management of River Oasis along the Tarim River in Northwest China under Global Change

摘要

During the past five decades intensive exploitation of water resources, mainly by agriculture, has changed the temporal and spatial distribution of water resources and has caused serious environmental problems in the Tarim River Basin. Therefore, the overarching goal of the SuMaRiO project is to support sustainable oasis management along the Tarim River under climatic and societal changes. Specifically, the project will investigate how to incorporate the concept of ecosystem services into IWRM. This will be done in a transdisciplinary manner, to integrate multidisciplinary scientific and multisectoral stakeholder knowledge. In order to support management decisions of the responsible stakeholders, a decision support system (DSS) will be developed which score the consequences of different management strategies.
