摘要

The present paper is the result of a field project, which took place in Jordan between September 2011 and January 2012. The main outcome of the study is to promote water protection and reduce overconsumption through demand management. Whereas awareness campaigns about water scarcity are common in many countries, Muslim countries offer new grounds for spiritual demand management. In other words, how can Islam best contribute to water management? This study finds out that Islamic Law students, future preachers and teachers, do not fully grasp the extent of the water crisis. Nor, does their curriculum touch upon the water and religion nexus. The irony of the matter is that the scriptures do offer much advice on why and how to save water: countless Islamic concepts can help to fill-in knowledge gaps and foster spiritual demand management.
