Platinum based bimetallic nano electrocatalysts such as PtAu, Ptlr and PtRu appear to be very unique toward H_2O_2 oxidation due to their composition, morphology, shape, surface active site and other properties. Enzymatic reactions often produce H_2O_2 as a byproduct. Therefore, an electrocatalyst reacts favorably with H_2O_2 will enhance the detection of the analyte in biosensing. This study describes the synthesis and characterization of these bimetallic electrocatalysts and their electrochemical oxidation with H_2O_2 and their reactions with essential interference species, such as ascorbic acid, uric acid and others. A minute interference by PtIr and PtRu nano electrocatalysts are found minimizing the effect contributed by ascorbic acid, uric acid, dopamine and acetaminophen. The results of this study will aid in the design of H_2O_2 sensing based biosensors using the platinum based bimetallic electrocatalysts enhancing their performance.
