A Dual-Band Quadrature Hybrid Coupler Using Embedded MTM-EBGs

A novel dual-band quadrature hybrid coupler is presented, the branches of which are loaded with MTM-EBG unit cells to enable dual-band performance. The coupler utilizes the MTM-EBG's microstrip-like-mode bandgap to present 90° phase shifts at two frequencies, which can be nearly independently chosen and designed. The coupler is fabricated, and experimental results show good agreement with the simulated response.
