In this paper, we present the methodology of material characterization and detailed simulation strategies towards the accurate modeling of embroidery-based textile rectangular patch antennas. The effective conductivity of the conductive material and the permittivity of the substrate material are characterized by the resonant frequency matching and the four-micro-strip line methods, respectively. A detailed full-wave simulation model is demonstrated to account for the double-layer embroidery nature of the conductive pattern. An embroidered patch antenna operating at 2.5 G Hz is prototyped to compare with the full-wave simulation model results of S11 and radiation pattern. The proposed modeling strategies are proved to be effective in guiding the embroidered patch antenna design.
