In the efforts to restore water quality of the Chesapeake Bay (the Bay) and its tributaries, there has been much focus on control of nutrient and sediment loads from urban and suburban stormwater and agricultural runoff. The purpose of this project was threefold: (1) provide planning-level nonpoint source (NPS) pollution information specific to the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren (NSFDL), including Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) NPS loading data for NSFDL; (2) provide channel and rill erosion stabilization recommendations, planning-level designs, and Rough-Orderof- Magnitude (ROM) cost estimates to remedy identified areas of erosion at NSFDL; and (3) estimate potential nutrient load reductions achieved by the selected remedies. The approach employed in this study considered severity of erosion and associated nutrient loads, potential nutrient load reduction from selected BMPs, cost, and site restrictions to prioritize the identified areas for budgeting and future implementation. Lead by the NSFDL, this project was conducted through a five-step process: data compilation and evaluation, site investigation, inventory preparation, recommendation development, and reporting.
