Perylene 3,4-5,10-tetracarboxylic acid bisimides (PBIs) have received considerable interest as building blocks for the design of functional supramolecular assemblies, polymers and complex molecular systems. As a n-type semiconductor, among other applications, it has been used in organic photovoltaic cells. In the bulk some dendronized PBIs self-organize in 3D and 2D periodic columnar arrays exhibiting high charge carrier mobility. However, the charge mobility data in the literature vary significantly.
