In order to study the seismic responses of transmission line structures, a shaking table test on 1000 kV transmission tower with 8-bundled conductors and ground wires was carried out. Taking a 1000kV UHV transmission project as background, a coupling system model consisting of three towers and two spans was designed and tested. Experimental results show that compared with that of the single tower, the first natural frequency of the tower with conductors was reduced by 16% and 18% in the line direction and cross-line direction, respectively. The results also indicate that the dynamic responses of the transmission tower with conductors is 6%-30% less than that of the independent tower with lumped masses, which illustrates that the nonlinear vibration effect of conductors increases the seismic resistant capacity of the transmission tower.
