The emergence of high strength steel offers a new vitality to the development of steel structure residence. Based on high strength steel, the optimization of high-rise steel structure residence is important to the development of residential buildings. In this paper, the MIDAS/GEN finite element software was used to carry out strength calculation on the building structures based on the structural seismic design theory. The steel frame structure was optimized according to the stress ratio. The seismic and economical performance of the structures was analyzed. After the optimization, inter-story drift angle increased slightly, floor shear force decreased under minor earthquakes. It is found that the break of inter-story drift angle got controlled effectively through Pushover analysis and dynamic elastoplastic analysis. The plastic hinge decreased in number and distributed more uniformly. The structure after optimization had better seismic performance under strong earthquakes. The structure had less using of steel, smaller weight and better economical performance.
