This paper presents a verified procedure for modeling bolted top-and-seat angle components and full-scale moment connections using finite element software. The procedure provides details for the following model aspects: finite element types and implementation, bolt geometric characteristics, frictional slip resistance, bolt pretensioning, and material properties. The procedure was verified against a shear bolt component test, two T-stub component tests, and two full-scale top-and-seat angle connection tests. This verification not only illustrates how well the procedure can create accurate models of physical tests, but also how the procedure can reproduce the most probable failure modes of these connections.
