Thirty-seven Years of Field Sketching: The Works of Jon Bryan Burley

Architects, landscape architects, interior designers, and artists are interested in abilities, methods, and experiences in field sketching. We are interested in the drawings of Dr. Jon Bryan Burley, FASLA, who has over 37 years of field sketching experience and a catalog of over 1,000 drawings from 35 countries around the world. We present examples from his experimental formative period, resulting in his artistic voice and his list of guidelines translated from Chinese that illustrate his drawing principles and ideas. Dr. Burley was interviewed in the fall of 2007 in Nanjing, China.
