Proposing a Simplified Method for the Analysis of Urban Transportation Tunnels against Earthquake

One of the significant issues in the urban systems is the understanding and mastering the surroundings and how to deal and cope with potential problems. Confined and buried spaces such as underground tunnels that are created to conduct the urban traffic seem to be very important because its slightest mistake means a painful tragedy. Therefore it is very important to consider the construction and behavior of these tunnels against the earthquake loads. Accordingly this paper extracts a simplified method in which the horizontal and vertical seismic loads, the equivalent static analysis methods and the interaction of soil - tunnel are studied. The proposed method in this study although has the ability to model the behavioral characteristics of the tunnel and the soil, but have no certain complexity and can be easily used to analyze the transportation tunnels under earthquake loads.
