Collaborative research projects on the prevention of atmospheric corrosion have been undertaken in Asia since 1980. As a result, it was considered that the mechanical properties mostly for the field of traffic, architectural, civil and other structures require the investigation. In this study, carbon steel plates of 3.2 mm thick were supplied as specimens. In order to examine the characteristics, as rolled, grit blasted and thermal sprayed plates, and also, sprayed films themselves were supplied. As the results, it could be estimated that fatigue strength, tensile strength, hardness, adhesion between steel and coating and brittleness of coating are correlative. This was confirmed by the accurate observation by the Field Emission SEM which is the newest EM method in Japan.
