A Transition in Production and Planning for a Changeable Micro Manufacturing System

Square Foot Manufacturing represents a superior desktop manufacturing concept intended as a modular and mutable construction kit to manufacture micro parts. Incorporating the idea of redefining the correlation between its elements and functions, Square Foot Manufacturing calls for new technologies and materials instead of simply downscaling current machine design. Prototypes have successfully proven the concept. Size, mutability and modularity as enablers are allowing for a change in strategic and tactical planning offering more flexibility and less long term commitment. The modular product systematic and a simplified range of functions favor open development to include customers and manufacturers.
