Effect of arsenic on Hibiscus cannabinus L. (kenaf) behaviour and evaluation of its use in phytoremediation

Hibiscus cannabinus L. is a high biomass plant species used in fiber and fodder production but also has phytoremediation applications. We evaluated the capacity of kenaf to accumulate arsenic in a hydroponic culture under controlled conditions. H. cannabinus is not recommended for its use in arsenic (As) phytoextraction but due to its ability to overcome As toxicity at moderate levels its use in phytostabilization is possible.
