A Modified IEEE 802.11 Protocol for Increasing Confidentiality in WLANs

In this paper, a modified version of the original IEEE 802.11 security protocol is proposed and simulated. The protocol in a C++ program is compared against existing standard IEEE 802.11 protocols. Since their conception, Wireless LANs have explosively risen in popularity and have been extensively deployed in commercial and industrial fields, due to the simplicity, robustness and flexibility of usage they offer. Their widespread usage makes WLANs all the more susceptible to third party interference. Hence, it also becomes increasingly important to secure such WLANs with proper protocols to prevent unwanted snooping, disruption and misuse of the resources the network provides.
