Considering rock joints, the discrete element method was used to study gypsum mine surface short-term and long-term stability. Filling method and caving method were selected as the surface treatment. Through comparison, Caving method is more suitable for handling the gob of gypsum mine. Surface movement angle and subsidence angle were obtained on the basis of the plastic zone, surface tilt rate and surface horizontal strain, and whereby draw a goaf risk areas to guide residential relocation. The research methods and conclusions in this paper can provide reference for the study of the empty area stability in gypsum mining currently.
