Study on Optimization Strategies of Urban Structure in Ravine Landform -A Case of Yan'an

In Procession of fast Urbanism, At the background of striations of natural condition and land supply shortage, It is the key question which urban size will upgrade and urban structure will change, that Optimizes spatial layout and creates urban features. This paper with case of Yan'an analyses the problem that exists in metropolis spatial layout; then discusses urban planning measures that optimize urban structure to hold compact urban morphology. Finally it sketch out the highlights city "landscape pattern" of the urban space structure optimization strategy. Urban land condition is a physical basis for the formation, development and evolution of a city, which restricts and affects its space structure. Under the trend of globalization, the urban space structures are gradually becoming similar with urban space characteristics lost and environmental problems widely spreading. China is a mountainous country and mountains cover the two-thirds of the national land. Large population, less field, many mountain lands and less flatland constitute the primary characteristics of China. As for the special geomorphic conditions, urban planners and decision-makers must scientifically analyze the relations between urban land conditions and urban space patterns for cities with different development speed and historical background so as to find out an applied model parallel to western theory and achieve scientific, systematic and operational planning and design. Being a revolutionary holy land of China, national historical and cultural city and red tourism city, the development of Yan'an is under the spotlight of relevant leaders at national, provincial and municipal levels. The natural space pattern of Yan'an is a typical model of small and medium size cities characterized by ravine landform on loess plateau. The optimization and improvement of urban space structure will play a constructive model role in driving the protection the outlook of national historical and cultural city and building cities in this region.
