This paper deals with the impact of the passage of moving trains on bridges and at their boundaries. Firstly, large bridge-deck accelerations have been investigated with respect to their influence on the track deterioration. Investigated parameters are the acceleration amplitudes, the frequency content of the vibrations and the relevance of very few vibration cycles on the track stability. In this respect, both the vertical and lateral stability have been considered. In a current research project the investigations are extended to the interaction of the train-track-dynamics and the long term behavior of the abutment and transition zones. Main emphasis is put on the integration of the possible deterioration of the structural components in the numerical modeling of vehicle, bridge, and bridge abutment structure.
