Forced aeration on high speed flow in chute spillways has been widely used as an economical and technically feasible solution for prevention of cavitation attack. Study of air concentration distribution across the lower nappe is of high importance for aerator design. Although many studies have been carried out on aerators, measurement of air concentration distribution across the lower layer of aerator jet is rare In the present study, vertical distributions of air concentration along lower layer of a jet were measured on a physical model of an aerator. On the basis of the measurements results, a new equation for air concentration distribution at the lower nappe was developed. Comparison of this equation, with data of previous researchers indicated a good agreement. The proposed equation can be found useful for analysis of air-water flow and optimal design of spillway aerators.
